Red wine stains can be a challenging and frustrating problem for carpet owners, but there are several steps you can take to remove them:

  1. Blot the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of the wine as possible. Do not scrub or rub the stain, as this can spread it and make it harder to remove.
  2. Mix a solution of 1 tablespoon of dish soap and 1 cup of warm water. Apply the solution to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes.
  3. Blot the stain again with a clean cloth or paper towel to remove the soap solution and any remaining wine.
  4. If the stain is still visible, mix a solution of 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 1 cup of warm water. Apply the solution to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes.
  5. Blot the stain again with a clean cloth or paper towel to remove the vinegar solution and any remaining wine.
  6. If the stain is still visible, mix a solution of 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 cup of warm water. Apply the solution to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes.
  7. Blot the stain again with a clean cloth or paper towel to remove the baking soda solution and any remaining wine.
  8. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 2-7 until the stain is completely removed.

It’s important to act quickly when dealing with red wine stains, as the longer the wine sits on the carpet, the harder it will be to remove. If you’re unable to remove the stain yourself, or if the stain is particularly stubborn, it’s a good idea to call a professional carpet cleaner for assistance.

Use at your discression. Carpets and soft furnishings are expensive, so if in doubt call a professional.
